I wish I would have found this aquarium plant sooner. Wow. I had avoided Myriophyllum tuberculatum because I thought it would be a little too tough to keep. Not so. This Myriophyllum tuberculatum is actually thriving for us despite the fact that it has finer leaves and is red. This plant is similar to a Foxtail or other kinds of Myrio.

I like the leaf pattern on this plant more than others. If you look closely it has a unique woven look to its leaves. We are currently keeping this plant in one of our higher light tanks and it is doing well. This Myriophyllum tuberculatum can handle lower light but won't give you the nicer reddish colors and would be more of a darker brown. It makes a great contrast to any planted aquarium. Buy our Iron Supplement and keep this guy looking this red!

This plant is currently about 5-8 inches tall.

Care Scale of 1-10: ( 1- it can grow in your toilet- 10 being nearly impossible)

We give Myriophyllum tuberculatum at 4 out of 10. It likes a hard cut and replant. (You can propagate it easily this way and make it bushier)

Lighting:

Can handle super low lighting but will grow skinnier, grows faster in high light.

Where to Plant:

Low Tech - A 'Red' Winner

I was very iffy on my ability to grow this plant in my 70 gal low tech. My lighting is decent and I use a lot of fertilizer but everything I read (elsewhere) said you MUST have CO2 to succeed with this one. Well, it's doing great after a month, quite a lot of new growth once it settled in. I don't get a super red color from it but I love how it looks nonetheless. It's a nice contrast to the green even in a rust-red color. It's hardy and stands up well to 4-inch flying foxes and even a large Geophagus sifting through its leaves. This is a heavily stocked tank with a lot of bottom feeders and nobody has ripped it up yet. It has developed a great root system in sand with root ferts. I received a generous portion of this plant and it's already spreading!

Adding Character- Myriophyllum tuberculatum

This is the plant that caught my eye when I first found DustinsFishtanks. It didn’t disappoint! It arrived looking healthy and with roots. The color adds more depth to my green plants. There are various Dustin’s plants in the picture. Myriophyllum tuberculatum Is getting used to my water and doing great.
