Alternanthera Bettzickiana Red
How about a NEW Alternanthera?
We held on to these for a bit to see how they behaved as Alternanthera's can have a bit of an attitude. (Adjusting attitude.)
No attitude adjustment needed here.
These are a hot plant. The have a great contrast of both RED and Green in them. (I was worried that the green would leave once we put them underwater. It hasn't)
Unlike other Alternantheras like Lilacina or Reineckii, these Bettzickiana have a stronger stem than I would have expected. They are a stout plant.
We have been growing these under higher light conditions and the plant is responding well. We have new growth out of the bottom.
I have found not just with Bettzickiana, but ALL Alternantheras like just a tiny bit of water flow. These Alternanthera Bettzickiana can handle even more water flow due to their stout stems.
Alternanthera Bettzickiana is not a beginner plant. I would put it as an intermediate
Care Scale of 1-10: ( 1- it can grow in your toilet- 10 being nearly impossible)
Alternanthera Bettzickiana is a 3 because it might lose a few leaves as it adjusts to your aquarium.
Lighting:
Can handle medium lighting, grows faster and looks better in higher light.
Where to Plant:
This is a good midground plant. Remove the binding. Plant bottom of stem directly into substrate.
Temps: This plant can handle the high 60s but it enjoys an even 70-74 degrees!
