MICRO Sword (Lilaeopsis brasiliensis (Foreground Sword aquarium plant) BF22
Want a short foreground plant that will give you a flowing carpet? Here comes Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis... or as the kids on the street call it. Micro Sword.
Lilaeopsis is an easy to keep aquarium. However, that doesn't mean it is an easy to THRIVE aquarium plant.
I first kept Lilaeopsis in college in the "Predirt era" It was kept in a simple gravel substrate but got plenty of light, CO2 and Nutrients. It looked good and maintained well in one place but it never really took off with runners.
While it's common name is "Micro swords" it is not actually a sword, though like a sword, I have found Lilaeopsis is a more heavy root feeder.
So- it is easy to KEEP alive, but it won't give you the carpeting looking you might be looking for without good substrate and higher light. (I would argue that almost ALL carpeting foreground plants will thrive 5x betting with a good substrate like dirt)
What I like about Lilaeopsis is that it has a finer leaf structure than a dwarf sag. It is not as hard as dwarf sag but close. When it does grow it's runners stay closer to the base. Microsword grows more dense that other runner plants.
The short, lighter green grassy look of Lilaeopsis would look great with a darker contrast in the foreground like a crypt or a different shape like Stauro.
On a scale of 1-10, 1 being you could grow it in your toilet, 10 being, dies in the bag on the way home.
Lilaeopsis is a 3.
- Medium to above average lighting
- Good substrate for better carpeting
- Likes CO2 but doesn't need it
Plants arrived healthy and green look great in the tank!
Been planted for a week now. Came in all green, none of it was dead. Divided it up and planted in the tank, hasn't done much, its only been a week, but still green though.
Got these along with 4 anubias pots(only used 2 pots in this tank) and a $99 plant combo. Super happy with how much plants I got for the cost. Having ordered from other retailers and made some smaller purchases from my local fish store, Dustin's outdoes in both quality and quantity. Super duper happy and looking forward to making more plant purchases!
Who hasn’t fallen in love with the “Blow your socks off GRASS TANK?!?
Who has spent money and time being frustrated with the IMMENSE difficulty of growing one.!.!
So, after much consideration I have opted for the “ MICRO SWORD(Lilaeopsis brasiliensis) and the DRAWF CHAIN SWORD (Echinodorus Tenellus. All are heathy, well packaged, great color and roots!
So instead of trying to create the equivalent of a beautiful Kentucky blue grass yard effect I have opted for the typical SW Missouri fescue yard. And Dustin, probably realizing the contents of my order threw in some really nice sturdy Crypts. The way crypts grow I look at it is the ever helpful crab grass filling in any and all bald spots! (And more).
“Hey Beck, come over for a beer!” “Love to but I’m mowing my aquarium.”
I can’t wait to see how this turns out but the QUALITY of the plants are extraordinary! And they are thick!
As my daddy always said ( he was a master gardener and orchard man): “The trick to a great garden is picking the plants that grow and thrive in your area! Don’t waste your time nursing a sick plant or tree…pull it and get a healthy viable replacement.!”
Dustin cannot control how or where you put your plant. He can only give you HEALTHY PLANTS THAT WILL GROW - that is why I only buy from him. Plus, he has very informative videos that answer the myriad of questions floating in my head.
Once you order from him you will understand the consistent 5 stars he so aptly deserves.
