{"title":"Midground Plants","description":"Midground Aquarium Plants for sale. I am pumped at how many great \"Midground\" plants we offer. Depending on the size of your tank, some of these could be considered background plants or even foreground plants.\r\n\r\nI have always been a fan of Crypts as a midground plant. They typically bring a nice contrast to the middle of an aquascape. We stock a variety of Crypts such as Crypt Blassi, Crypt Wendtii and the ultra-undemanding Crypt Spiralis.\r\n\r\nOther great midground plants we stock include a number of Amazon swords such as the Indian Red sword (which like crypts, also gives a nice contrast in the middle of the tank) We carry Pinwheel Swords as well as Melon Swords which serve this same purpose.\r\n\r\nAnubias is another great Midground aquarium plant that we are proud to offer. My right hand man in the greenhouse- Bryan Campbell- loves and demands we keep all kinds of Anubias. Anubias comes in a variety of different types. The leaves on the Crypt Wendtii might fall off not long after you plant them. THIS IS COMPLETELY NORMAL WITH CRYPTOCORYNE. It just happens.\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"\u003eWhat you are going to want to look for is a tiny bit of new growth coming back up out of the center of the plants after a few days. These are the leaves you are looking for. They are the leaves that are more prepared for your tank. They are the leaves that are going to last longer.\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"\u003eCrypts are considered a low light plant and like a little shade. These \u003cstrong\u003eC. Wendtii\u003c\/strong\u003e will grow shorter and more compact under high light. I dirted or well fertilized tank would be ideal. If you want some lush green. The thing that shocks me about Crypt Spiralis is how when we got it in, it didn't melt like most crypts. NOTE: That doesn't mean it won't melt in your tank, but it will grow back. If you have never kept a Crypt before, you should start with Crypt Spiralis....great hardy Crypt! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003eCare Scale of 1-10:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1.5  The .5 is only because it might melt back if what we are selling has not fully converted to underwater growth... I love the big red leaves and the unique shape of the plant. As with most red plants, with \u003cem\u003eRed Tiger Lotus\u003c\/em\u003e, you are going to want to make sure that they have substantial nutrients in their substrate. The better the substrate the better the Red Tiger Lotus will grow. I wouldn't advise trying to keep a \u003cem\u003eRed Tiger Lotus\u003c\/em\u003e without \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/dustinsfishtanks.myshopify.com\/admin\/products\/9899174669\" title=\"Dustin's Dirt for sale on Dustin's Fishtanks\" style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'San Francisco', 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; font-size: 1.4em;\"\u003eDirt \u003c\/a\u003eor some really substantial root fertilizer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey say to cut it back so it grows better. I have never personally done this, but it isn't a bad idea for how to care for a red tiger lotus. The Red Tiger Lotus is from west Africa and just looks great as a contrast in you planted aquarium tank. I have seen it come back from only a few leaves to be a thriving plant. Although I keep it in my 40 high with only one strip and natural sunlight where it grows straight up and down, no side action… It also is great to break up an aquascape. The contrast of it with a long tall and skinny plant is great. I have kept it with swords, jungle val. Ect. This is a must have plant. When you hear Africa think Cichlids and HARD WATER.  Now, you might not know if you have hard water, but these plants enjoy a higher mineral content.  This can easily be achieve by adding crushed coral, dolamite or aragonite to your aquarium.   DO THIS for best result for not just this plant but others.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDon't over think the hard water.  Our Growth Juice and Iron will keep your plants healthy.  (How the heck do you think we have grown them out?)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLIGHTING:  We have found that the fastest way to grow these plants (and basically ANY Plants is with high light.  That said, I have been growing my MONSTER Crinum Natans for years under medium to low light aquarium that is 30 inches tall.... and my Crinum Natans is now about 60 inches tall.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSUBSTRATE:   We have tested this plant in dirt and in plain old pea gravel. It has done better in dirt. (Shocker) BUT is still growing in plain gravel.
